Chapter 4: The Snakes in the Shadows

Stealth. This is an ability that many can attempt, some can perform, and only few can master. It is an ability that allows someone to refrain from being noticed by his enemies. To blend in with whatever places there are to hide. This can help if you are trying to retrieve something of great importance, but in this case he was trying to keep an eye on someone who was of a Very Great Importance and this opens another chapter.

As the two captives and the guards moving them went out of sight, the red eyes moved back in the shadowy hallway and moved through a hole in the roof.

He checked surroundings. Nothing in sight; but that didn’t mean it was completely unguarded. He quickly traversed the rooftops of the abandoned sections of the base, always keeping the two hedgehogs in sight.

By the looks of things he needed to hurry to get in a good place to attack before they reached the inner areas with higher security.

He kept looking until he found a small alleyway with a good placement to destroy the robots, but not the captives.

However they would be a few minutes until they arrived so he decided to see how his partner was doing. He didn’t like working with others. He preferred to work alone and not worry about anyone else. However he had not known much about this person, and so far his impressions were he could handle himself.

“How’s the system hack coming?”

“Terrible. This is a really tough nut to crack. I don’t even know how Eggman gets in even with a password.”

“Hmph. Well keep trying. We need to get in there.”

“I’m trying, I’m trying. I might take a few more minutes. Anything new in that section.”

“Yes. I’ve spotted the two hedgehog’s being escorted through this section to the central area.”

“Right on time I see….wait. Did you say Two hedgehogs?”

“Yes.”
“That can’t be right. I thought Eggman only captured Amy.”

“Well it appears the “Good Old Doctor” has been hog-hunting.”

“Really. I didn’t know it was in season. I hope the next one’s not chameleon.”

“This is no time for smart remarks you lizard. Now how is that system coming? I’m about to get a clear shot at the guards near the two hedgehogs”

“Alright. I think I found an opening in the security.”

“The hedgehog’s and their two guards are here. There’s one guard in front and one behind.”

“You may destroy when ready”

“Affirmative”

“I’m almost there…..wait.”

The hedgehog powered up two of his traditional Chaos Spears. “You can consider them scrapped.”

“WAIT. SHADOW. DON’T.”

At the last second he stopped the energy flow and slammed the two Chaos Spears into the ground. It made a huge impact and shockwave that most of the patrolling guards heard it. Shadow immediately jumped up on the roof and ran for a water tower where he had cover, but could see the group.

The robots guarding them were pointing the guns at the exploded alleyway. Many others had joined them and were inspecting the explosion.

Shadow then called his partner. “Just What Are You Trying To DO!!!? Get me killed!!!”

“Sorry Shadow. I was just blocked off the system.”

“You were what.”

“We can’t get in.”

“Humph! Why did even agree to this mission with you Espio.”

“Because you were ordered too”

“Grrr…”
“Anyway, what’s Plan B, Shadow?”

“If you mean getting in undetected, there’s no plan.”

“But we could still sneak in behind the robots escorting the hedgehogs.”

“There is too much security now. There are three times as many robots”

“So were Screwed I guess.”

“Well, Yes and No.”

“Hmm…?”

“We can still warp in, but we will be automatically detected. He’s upgraded his security since my last visit.”

“Then what do we do?”

“We need a distraction.”

“How big of a distraction?”

“A Full-on frontal assault.”

“Oh. So now what?”

“We wait.”

“Wait? For what?”

*BOOM*

“That.”

“WHAT WAS THAT?  MY NEW Laptop’s broken!”
